Printing Start-Up with Bo Borum from Gad Publishing

Production Manager Bo Borum from Gads Forlag is visiting to monitor the printing of the cover for the book ‘Damen i midten’ (The Lady in the Center) about fashion, women and Danish History as seen through the windows of a department store, which will be published on April 11th in celebration of Magasin's 150th anniversary. The cover will be printed with LED UV inks (opaque white and CMYK) on a solid-color paper with gold surface. The outcome was uncertain since this is not possible with ordinary oil-based inks, which are not entirely opaque. Here Bo Borum studies one of the test prints together with Press Manager Erik Tarp and Printer Tom Pedersen.

But first, a plan must be made. Here Project Manager Poul Lauritsen and Printer Tom Pedersen evaluate the textured paper called 'Sharade Lustra Antique Gold'.

Color separations are essential. Here, Graphic Designer Johannes Pump checks together with Bo Borum that partial varnish is in register and that there is no white color under black, only under the other colors.

The first sheets are on their way.

The test print was successful after printing 3 times with UV opaque white, twice with CMYK, and once with varnish. The UV LED printing technology makes the colors retain their intensity, while the sheets are dry the moment they leave the machine.
